Mise-en-scene blog task:

In this particular scene, the costume on both characters portrays their status and class, this is seen where the female character on the left which is Lauren (Taraji Henson) is portrayed to be wearing smart wear as she is wearing a black shirt paired with a tight black pencil skirt showing that she is a more sophisticated character and is part of the middle class. However, the male character opposite known as Dominic (Michael Ealy) is portrayed to be a working class character which is conveyed through his costume as he is wearing a typical leather jacket paired with blue jeans. The fact that they are only having a conversation and Lauren is seen to be wearing business wear indicates that she has a very high status and reputation and is seen to be more classy as her legs are crossed. On the other hand Dominic is more tranquil and looks more welcoming.
High key lighting is applied in this scene to create a more natural setting and a sense of realism within the frame. In this scene the background is quite blurred and the lighting is on these two characters displayed which shows that they wanted to make the audience focus on these two characters implying this is a significant scene.
In this scene the characters are seen to have quite neutral make up which reflects the mood of this setting. Additionally, throughout the film the female character, Lauren tends to put on quite a lot of make-up when she goes on a date which shows that this is important to her and she wants to impress Dominic. This shows how the audience particularly females can relate to Lauren as whenever there is a significant event, females tend to dress up.
